Resumen

Here we review the knowledge of Risso’s dolphin Grampus griseus in Chilean waters. Based on analysis of 44 records, this species appears to have a continuous distribution along the Chilean coast between 20º13’S and 40ºS and we suggest that the reported southernmost record from Chile (~52°S) could be Atlantic Risso’s dolphins. The Chilean records show a peak during the austral summer and indicate a preference for waters over 1000 m in depth. Mass stranding, interaction with fisheries, and associations with other cetaceans species are also reviewed.
